The raging rapids of the Waikato river caught in a narrow canyon or the hard geothermally-altered rock about 15 metres wide and 10 metres deep at Taupo near the centre of New Zealand's North Island. The Waikato is New Zealand's longest river stretching 425 kilometres from Lake Taupo to south of Auckland into the Pacific.
