Corinth canal or Isthmus
Corinth Canal intersects Corinth isthmus, the narrowest piece of land between Peloponnese and Central Greece. It took 12 years to complete and was considered one of the greatest technical achievement of its time (1881-1893). With length , width 24 metres and depth 8 meters, Corinth canal it saves 450 miles for vessels that avoid the route around the Peloponnese in order to reach the Aegean and Black Sea from Adriatic sea or western Mediterranean.
