Cockermouth is pleasantly seated in a narrow valley, at the mouth of the Cocker, bywhich river it is divided into two parts, united, however, by a bridge of one arch. Thechurch, market-place, and castle stand on the east side, and the remaining portion of thetown is on the south-west.
