Sonobuoys are stored in a Boeing P-8 Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft during a BALTOPS 2015 mission over the Baltic Sea June 13, 2015. The Navy deploys sonobuoys from the Boeing P-8 Poseidon, the sonobouystransmit sound waves through the water upon impact, reporting underwater activity. Approximately 5,600 ground, maritime and air personnel from participating nations will demonstrate air defense, maritime interdiction, anti-subsurface warfare and amphibious operations in a joint environment to ensure regional security.
