The female Bornean orangutan 'Kedua' pictured in her enclosure at Madrid zoo on September 2016. According a report published in 'Parasites & Vectors' magazine, 'Kedua' was diagnosed of clinical leishmaniosis, a disease caused by parasites of the Leishmania type, between December 2016 and January 2017. This is the first report of Leishmania infantum infection in great apes, according researches of 'Facultad de Veterinaria de la Universidad Complutense' in Madrid. 'Kedua'. 34-years-old, was born in the Artis Amsterdam Royal Zoo (The Netherlands) and transferred to Madrid Zoo in 2009.
