BoilitO, a name common to several fishes ofthe mackerel family (Scombridae).—(1) One ofthese, Tlnjnnus pelamys, sometimes called the. Eonito, or Stripe-bellied Tunny. Stripe-bellied Tunny, and of the same gej^us withthe Tunny (), is well known to sailors as aninhabitant of the tropical parts of the Atlantic andIndian Oceans, and as one of the fishes mostfrequently seen pursuing the flying-fish. It isoften taken by an inutation flying-fish made toskim along and touch the waves. Its flesh is notregarded as very wholesome, though not unnatu-rally relished by those who have been previouslyconfined to salt provisions. It is occasionallybut rarely caught on the British coasts. It is avery beautiful fish, seldom exceeding .30 inches inlength, of a beautiful steel-blue colour, darker onthe back, and whitish below. Four dark linesextend along each side of the belly. The generalform resembles that of the mackerel, but is less com-pressed.—(2) The Mediterranean Bonito {Pelaniyssarda) is closely allied. It has the same blue backand dark transverse bars reach
