The Blue Mosque in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul


The Blue Mosque in the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul. The name comes from the blue tiles that decorate the interior. The mosque was built between 1609-1616 to designs by imperial architect Mehmet Aga. Comissioned by Sultan Ahmet I the mosque was unusual in having 6 minarets.
