The variable-speed feeding device used upon the Muellerradial is a friction plate and disc, the location of which iamade plain in Figs. 46 and 47. The friction disc is easilymoved across the plate for changes of feeding speed, whichmay be made when the drill spindle is in operation. Bymoving the disc from the center to the rim of the plate, feedsfrom 0 to .023 in. per revolution of the spindle may be ob-tained. The drive for the automatic feed is made through ajaw clutch on the shaft carrying the worm which drives thegear on the feed shaft. 382 AMERICAN ENGINEER AND RAILROAD JOURNAL. (EstablUbed 1832.) B-.
