BRENCHLEYENSIS. This brilliant Gladiolus should be ex- tensively used for massing. It comes quickly into bloom, while it can be planted in this latitude as late as the middle of July, and will bloom even then before frost. The flowers are of a dazzling scarlet color, enveloping the entire spike. CERES. The long spikes are perfectly straight, with large flowers of great substance, well formed, and all facing one way, making a solid wall of flowers. The ground color is pure white, while each flower has a large blotch of violet-rose. MADAME MONNERET. A splendid, vigorous grower, with large spikes of delicate rose-colored flowers exquisitely at- tractive, and valuable for cutting. MARIE LEMOINE. This variety shows the distinct orchid- like character of the type, with a long spike of beautiful flowers; pale cream color, flushed scarlet and spotted pur- plish-violet, bordered with deep yellow. NAPOLEON III. Fine large spikes of intensely scarlet flowers, each with a clear white throat. Few Gladioli can compare with this well-known variety for brilliancy of color and hand- some markings.
