Detail of supporting beams in workshop with timber roof. Godsbanen, Aarhus, Denmark. Architect: 3XN, 2012.

Godsbanen Cultural Centre occupies the former rail freight buildings in Aarhus. Built of red brick in 1920-22 in neo-Gothic style, they were one of the last works of Heinrich Wenck, chief architect of Danish State Railways. Following the decommissioning of the freight yeard, 3XN were appointed to convert the complex into a cultural centre, bringing together artists, performers and service providers. The most striking feature is the concrete roof of the new building, where visitors can climb, past circular skylights, for a panoramic view over the city.
