Bernard Derrida (born 1952), French physicist, at a 'Speed Science' event organised to allow 100 young people to meet a range of eminent French scientists. Derrida's research is in statistical mechanics, with particular emphasis on applications in biology, such as genetics and neural networks. Since 1993, he has been a professor at the Pierre-and-Marie-Curie University, Paris, France. He was elected a member of the French Academy of Sciences in 2004.
