There are times occasionally whena stock pond is almost invaluable, farmers in certain parts of the Mid-dle West, during an exceptionally drytime, have suffered severe loss forlack of water for their live stock. Itis a great convenience at all times, ifthe delivery pipes are so arrangedthat the water may be convenientlyobtained. The plan of allowing live stock inthe pond is very objectionable. Thepond should be bordered by a nicegrassy slope and a fence of the woven-wire type, with the lowermeshes so small that not even a chick-en could get into the reservoir. Thefarm pond should be guarded asclosely as the water supply for a lumberman can supply the bestPortland cement for the stock pondbasin, and also the wire fencing andposts to protect the pond. Breeding Crate The drawing shows a very goodplan for a breeding crate for Serviceable Breeding Crate It is made of of 2 by 4 pieces, boltedtogether with 5-16-inch bolts. Aboutsix dozen bolts are necessary. Thecost is not very great, but it makesa strong crate that will be good fortwenty years. The crate is perma-nently closed in front and cross-braced to prevent wrecking. Thereare diagonal cross pieces at the top,and across the bottom for the samepurpose. The crate will be loaded into thewagon, and men are not very carefulin dropping it out, but a crate madelike this, and thoroughly fastened to-gether with bolts, will stand a lot ofabuse without wrecking it to pieces. There are two inclined pieces onthe inside, as shown in the drawing, and there are a number of holes atdifferent heights for an iron rod.
