Antarctic temperature trends, 1982-2003. Based on satellite data, this image shows the areas of Antarctica that have warmed (red) and cooled (blue) over the 21 years from 1982 to 2003. The colour-coding is shown on the key at lower left. The difference in the range of temperatures is plus or minus degrees Centigrade. The data was obtained from the thermal infrared channel of the AVHRR (Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) sensors on NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) satellites.
