Avalon Ballroom, San Francisco, California
The ballroom was built in 1911 to house the Colin Traver Academy of Dance. It became famous from 1966 to 1969 when producers Family Dog Productions presented such rock groups as Quicksilver Messenger Service, the Steve Miller Band, Moby Grape, The Doors, the 13th Floor Elevators, the Butterfield Blues Band, Big Brother and the Holding Company (Janis Joplin) and the Grateful Dead, among others.
