With the hand-ripper, we screwthe two pieces fast to the two light woodenbars that constitute the only wood aboutthe machine. This you willhave to do with the hand ripper, forthe foot-power saw would not reach through so you do not split the pieces exactly in themiddle it does not matter, and a very thickone occasionally will be all the better, togive the hive strength without any extraexpense. You can plane this siding byhand very cheaply, or it may be done on thecigar-box planer; if on the latter, you willbe obliged to reduce them to a uniformthickness unless you choose to save out thethickest pieces, and plane them afterwardwith the planer a little higher.
