On theRepublican side, those in favor of a new constitution were Wilson,McKean, iMifllin and Pickering; among the Constitutionalistswere the names of Findley, Smilic, Whitehill and (jallatin. Already new parties had begun to form. The Constitutional-ists had been divided into those in favor of revision and those whowere not, and ultimately this change in amending the constitutionled to still larger consequences. For some days the Republicansdeclaimed against the constitution of 1776, which surely tendedto irritate the spirit of ])art}- and make things worse instead ofbelter.
