Captain Dimmick entered the regular service as secondlieutenant of the Ninth Cavalry August 9, 1867, andjoined his regiment in Texas, where he served from 1867to 1875, and was then ordered to change station with hisregiment to the Department of the Missouri, he takingstation first at Fort Wallace, Kansas. lie was at Fort. Lyon, Colorado, in 1876, and then was changed to FortUnion, New Mexico, where he served in 1877-78. Heparticipated in the campaign against Victorio in 1879-80,through New Mexico, Arizona, and Old Mexico. Hewas after that detailed on recruiting service in 1882-84,subsequently returning to Fort Riley, where he wasduring the years 1884-85. Lieutenant Dimmick was promoted first lieutenantNinth Cavalry January 10, 1870, and captain October 25,1883. He participated in the Boomer campaign, IndianTerritory, and was then transferred to Fort McKinney,Wyoming, in 1885.
