THE NAVY REFLOATS A MINESWEEPER IN NAPLES DRY DOCK. 20 TO 24 MARCH 1944. WHEN THE ALLIES TOOK THE PORT OF NAPLES THEY FOUND THAT A 250 FOOT DRY DOCK WAS COMPLETELY USELESS. THE DOCK GATE HAD BEEN DESTROYED, AND COMPLETELY SUBMERGED AND ON THE BOTTOM WERE A 300 TONS ITALIAN AUXILIARY MINESWEEPER, A 60 TONS SCHOONER AND A 150 TONS STEEL BARGE. THE ROYAL NAVY THEN SET ABOUT REMEDYING THE SITUATION, A 150 TONS STEEL DOCK GATE WAS BUILT AND PUT INTO PLACE.
