The lesser known valley of the river le Loir is renowned for its Romanesque churches, several of which are directly linked to the ancient pilgrim routes to the shrine of St James the Apostle (St Jacques in French, Santiago in Spanish) at Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, north western Spain.
