Gout, drawing

Illustration of gout, a frequent chronic illness linked to the metabolism of uric acid, whose most common clinical manifestation is acute monoarthritis in the big toe. Deposits of uric acid crystals, in excess in the blood, are localised in the cartilage and synovial membrane of the joint, between the metatarsal and the first phalanx of the big toe. It can also affect the ankle, heel or knee joints.
