Selenotoca aetate-varians is the eastern and northern Australian cog- nate of the Western Australian Selenotoca multifasciata (Richardson, 1846). Scatophagus argus is represented in Australia by quadranus De Vis (sometimes spelt quadratus), whilst Desmoprenes tetracanthus (Lacepede) has been recorded from the Northern Territory.
