The water was laid on from a spring a quarterof a mile away on the other side of the river. Thesupply pipe froze on me twice ; on one occasionI was three weeks without water. I had two menworking on the pipeline most of the time, andfinally, with the aid of a liberal use of coal-oiland waste, and a vast amount of perseverance, wegot the water to run again. Then the waste-pipes would freeze and have tobe dug out and thawe
