Line of Foot Soldier Infantry Troops with Pikestaffs Renactment Historic Tewkesbury Battle 1471 England 2007 NR

Hailed as Europe's biggest and most spectacular medieval event, Tewkesbury Medieval Festival is an annual fayre celebrating the May 4th 1471 Battle of Tewkesbury. This battle saw the house of York (The White Rose) and Lancaster (The Red Rose), pit themselves in the final battle of the War of the Roses. The Battle Re-enactment takes place on some of the original battlefield and features approximately 2000 knights, archers and men at arms. In addition, the two days of fayre see a colourful and authentic living history camp with families living in complete medieval style, and a fascinating market selling everything from medieval pots and authentic costumes to toys and individual jewellery. There may also be other surprises, such as a joust with knights on horseback meeting in combat, huge street processions, falconry and other medieval displays and entertainment both on the fair site and throughout the town. The festival takes place in mid July each year. For more information see
