Proteomics research. Screen display showing results of the Olympus MF20, a single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy system. This is a machine which allows the analysis of molecular-level interactions between proteins by measuring fluorescence signal fluctuations caused by molecular motion. Proteins are the building blocks of the body. All enzymes (chemicals that carry out biochemical reactions in the body) are proteins, and most body tissues are composed largely of proteins also. This ability to analyze interactions among biomolecules or between biomolecules and potential pharmaceutical compounds has applications in drug development and the analysis of disease mechanisms.
