In the new stoker the tuyeres slope at about 11 there is a progressive backward movement of theentire fuel bed toward the dump plate at the rear. Bythe time the dump plate is reached the combustiblein the coal has been quite well consumed, and onlydead ash is deposited on the dump plate. The dumpplate is balanced and is easily operated by hand, theweight of the clinker itself tending to assist in theoperation. The novel features in the design of this stoker aresaid to be these: (1) The very small inclination of thetuyeres which prevents avalanching, and clinkerformation on the bridge wall. (2) Special design ofside tuyeres, which are air cooled, to prevent clinkerformation on the side wall. (3) Protection of the frontwall by front wind boxes. (4) Accessibility of thestoker thr
