The artist has beenhappy in the selection of types and incidents of compositioncharacteristic of the Umbrian school. The dainty flowers ofthe foreground, the homely fence, and rustic shelter are inperfect keeping with the secluded landscape and the mysticscene. The angel seen full front is beautiful whether in thelovely contour of the face or the unaffected, upright attitude,with its superb pivotal result upon the whole disturbing material elements trouble the repose. Thereis charming distribution and variet} of colour. The angel inthe foreground has a blue mantle and red robe. This red isrepeated on the edge of the garments of the other two angelsand in the pillow upon which the Infant lies. The second angelwears a garment of }xllow and this colour reappears in theopen shutter on the right. The remaining angel is in grey andblue. Suave
