220825-N-EV253-1082 SAN DIEGO (Aug. 25, 2022) – A US Naval Aircewman (Helicopter), assigned to the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Search and Rescue Model Manager (SARMM) component of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 3, jumps from MH-60S helicopter during a dynamic proof of concept exercise in Glorietta Bay in Coronado, Calif., Aug. 25, 2022. During the evolution, SARMM tested the practicality of using two rescue swimmers versus the traditional one, as well as alternative litter deployment and recovery method, to decrease the time required to affect a rescue, and give future flight crews increased flexibility in a variety of different personnel recovery scenarios. As the designated SARMM, the “Merlins” of HSC-3 ensure that SAR units are fully-qualified to perform lifesaving operations with the responsibility for promoting policy and standardization in SAR training, equipment, manuals and procedures for all rescue capable units and associated medical personnel within their area of responsibility.
