The watchmenwere accordingly increased, most of the gardeners weredivided into parties, and patrols were appointed to keepunder view the principal approaches of the Palace. Othermen were stationed in the courts and passages, and so aclose watch was kept throughout the night, it being soarranged that patrols met at some point or other at veryshort intervals. ^ Nothing, however, happened ; and in aday or two, life at Hampton Court resumed the even tenourof its way. ^ CHAPTER XXVI.
