Scuba diver with torch examining a Black coral tree (Antipathes sp.), a coral that typically inhabits deeper water in tropical and subtropical environments. Its name comes from the black colour of the rigid central axis of horny material, hidden by the surrounding lighter coloured flesh and polyps. The horny skeletons of larger black coral trees are used for jewellery. Northwest Solitary Island, New South Wales, Australia
