To accom-plish this he gets on the job early and stays there until itis all over, because cleaning up a snowstorm is not play; itis a mans job. A CONVENIENT SHOP SCAFFOLD The electric car repair shop of the Long Island Railroad isfully equipped with a convenient form of permanent scaffoldingbetween the repair tracks. Light body repairs and painting aredone while the car bodies are jacked up for electrical over-. Adjustable Shop Scaffold hauling and the scaffolding between pits permits painting to bedone without obstructing the aisle floor space with ladders orhorses. A row of 8-in. x 8-in. wooden posts spaced about14 ft. apart is set in the floor of each aisle. On two sidesof these posts are bolted J^-in. x 4-in. iron plates with holespunched in them at intervals of 8 in. The metal which ispunched out is bent back at the top so that when the scaffoldbracket is raised the lug which fits into the hole is forced outof engagement. A triangular wooden bracket arm is attachedon each side of the post. At the top of the vertical member ofthe bracket are bolted two iron straps which are bent aroundthe iron plate on the face of the post. At the bottom of thevertical piece is a lug which engages in the holes in the ironplate. Each bracket is counterweighted by a piece of cast ironattached to a small wire cable passing over a sheave on thetop of the post. The brackets on each
