A view westwards along the multiple ditch and bank defences on the south side of Maiden Castle near Dorchester

Maiden Castle near Dorchester, one of the finest, largest and most complex Iron Age hillforts in Britain. Originally a Neolithic causewayed camp, it was extended in the Iron Age and eventually occupied by the Romans.
