HST servicing mission. Astronaut Jeffrey Hoffman replaces fuse plugs on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) during Shuttle Mission STS-61. The fuses are part of the gyroscope and instrument electrics. Hoffamn is seen standing at the end of the Remote Manipulator System (RMS) arm. The body of the telescope is at left, and one of its solar panels is seen behing the RMS arm at right. The shapes at top centre are tall thunderclouds on Earth, caught in sunlight near the night/day boundary. Five sessions of extravehicular activity (EVA) were performed to complete all of the servicing tasks. Mission STS-61 flew on 2-13 December 1993.
