The week ending January 18 was a trying one for our wholesale men, as clean sales were out of question. Stock of all kinds was more than the demand could consume. Eoses were the only flowers that sold up well, as some of our local groweis are off crop, but ex- pect to be on for Easter. Beauties, the few that are "oming in, are of poor quality and so badly bulled that they are hardly salable. Killarneys and Eichmonds are of good quality, with the demand good. Carnations were a big glut and the wholesalers had their troubles in order to dispose of them at anything that looked like a fair price. The quality of the stock was extra good. The common sorts could not be giVen away. Violets were plentiful and were dis- posed of at low prices, averaging about 30 cents per hundred for good stock. Sweet peas are many and these, too, had to be reasonable in price in order to sell them. The best quality of stock averaged about 40 cents per hundred for the week. Bulbous stock, more than any of the other flowers, was hard to handle, and especially Paper Whites and valley. The former brought as low as 75 cents per hundred in thousand lots and the latter were down to $2 per hundred. Easter lilies had a fairly good demand and held up in price, as did callas.
