The wallsare perpendicular, and rarely high enough to allow aman to stand upright inside: on this base is a pointed I70 TOMBS. pyramid, which varies from 12 to 30 feet in height, covered on the outsidewith a coat of plaster andpainted white. Owing tothe poor quahty of theground it was impossible toexcavate a burial chamber,and the builders wereforced to conceal it in thebuilding itself.
