Eta Carinae Nebula, Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image. This large panoramic view covers an area 50 light years across, and was assembled from 48 images obtained by Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys in 2005. Colour information was added using the ground-based Cerro Tolodo Inter-American Observatory telescopes in Chile. The colours correspond to different elements: sulphur (red), hydrogen (green) and oxygen (blue). The Eta Carinae Nebula is around 10,000 light years from Earth in the constellation of Carina. The nebula is a large cloud of gas and dust, with a mix of hot, young stars, dying stars and regions of starbirth. The main star, Eta Carinae, is at far left.
