The French understood the red man and won thefriendship of most of the tribes east of the Mississippi. TheEnglish disliked the Indians, and the Indians hated the Eng-lish, because the white men had taken from them so much oftheir land. Only the Iroquois withstood the advances of the French,. Early French and Indian Wars. — That a clash betweenthe two nations must come sooner or later was to be and England had been foes for centuries, and a warbetween them was always imminent. American colonieswould naturally hold the same views as the mother country,so that when war broke out in Europe, it was taken up by theFrench and British colonies.
