The Polylepis forest at 3850 meters is one of very few remaining places with Polylepis trees that are specialised with their red multiple layer bark to high altitudes in the Andes. Der Polylepis-Wald im Reservat El Angel ist einer der letzten Rückzugsorte dieser mit ihrer viel-lagigen, roten Rinde auf große Höhen der Anden spezialisierten Bäume, die zum Teil bis auf 5000 Meter Höhe wachsen.
