Natural product chemistry research. Laboratory technician placing plant samples in a high-temperature high-pressure extractor. This research is being carried out at the LEPA (Service d'Extraction de Principes Actifs) division of the Natural Product Chemistry Institute (ICSN, Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles). This is a CNRS research institute in Gif sur Yvette, near Paris, France. It carries out research into new natural products from plants, marine organisms and micro-organisms, as well as synthesising those with pharmacological uses and investigating biological mechanisms of action.
