Sheerness, Kent, UK. 9th Sep, 2017. The 59th Isle of Sheppey Round the Island Race. The race has been established since 1959, and is the UK's longest annual dinghy, catamaran and sailboard race at some 35-40 miles (depending on wind & tide). The course is a clockwise circumnavigation the island starting and finishing from Isle of Sheppey Sailing Club, Sheerness. This year 65 craft competed (114 people). Despite the prospect of bad weather, ideal conditions prevailed - sunshine and a force 3-4 westerly breeze. Pictured: a Tornado catamaran. Credit: James Bell/Alamy Live News
