Detail from one of the mosaic panels set in the ambulatory vaulting of the Mausoleum of Santa Costanza, Rome depicting scenes from wine making and harvesting. Here three figures(erotes) are treading grapes. These panels date from the 4th c (though much restored in the 19th c). They display a mix of Christian and pagan symbolism and imagery, showing the transition of Rome from a pagan to a Christian city during the rule of the Emperor Constantine.
