Simulated SPOT satellite image of the area around Godstone, Surrey, England. SPOT (a Landsat-type resource mapping satellite) is due to be lauched by France in November 1985. The simulation was produced from data recorded by an airborne scanner, degraded to give the 20x20 metres ground resolution expected from SPOT, & processed using \unsupervised cluster analysis\", a technique which groups areas of similar radiance into statistical classes by considering all the radiance bands obtained in the raw data. Areas of healthy vegetation (which strongly reflects infra-red radiation) appear bright red."
