In the fall of 1833 John Wad-dell entered land in this township, lived onhis farm for many years and died there Janu-ary 9, 1877. There was a large family ofWaddills, many of whom are still residents ofTennessee Township. He was also an active business man,dealing largely in cattle; and both in his ag-ricultural and his live-stock operations he wasentirely successful. Further, for many years,he was a leader in church and , being superintendent of the latter fora long period. At the age of nineteen yearshe had joined the Baptist Cnurch, but therebeing no organization of that denomination inthe vicinity of his Illinois nome, in 1845 he be-came a member of the Methodist Church, andcontinued a faithful adherent to that faith untilhis death, October 24, 1S77.
