For early summer crop, seed should be sown in March in a hot- bed, and when the plants are sufficiently large enough, they should be transplanted into a cold frame. This will harden them off and prepare them for the open ground. As the plant is hardy the Cauliflower can be set in the open ground as soon as danger of hard freezing is over. For fall and winter Cauliflower the seed can be sown in a cool, moist place on the north side of a build- ing or fence about May 1st The crop should be thoroughly cultivated and the plants kept free from worms by using insect powder. The Cauliflower will not head up well in hot, dry weather, and for this reason it is necessary that the seed should be sown so as to bring the plants to maturity in the early summer or late fall. Do not allow the plants to become crowded in the seed bed and always transplant in moist weather The low muck lands are best adapted to the cul- tivation of this vegetable, but the ground should be rich and thoroughly worked.
