Hippy girl at the Easter ‘Be-in’, Central Park, New York, 26 March 1967. She has her face painted and wears flowers in her hair

Hippy girl attending the Easter ‘Be in’, Central Park, New York City, 26 March 1967. Between 1967 and 1968 several ‘Be-ins’ were held in Central Park to protest against issues such as USA’s involvement in the Vietnam War and racism. About 10,000 people gathered at the Sheep Meadow in Central Park. The majority of participants were considered to be ‘hippies’. Many wore flowers, petals, paper stars and tiny mirrors. Some had their faces painted. The event’s unofficial password was ‘love’. This woman has her face painted two halves - in gold and silver (sun and moon maybe). She has a garland of flowers in her hair. Please note since uploading this image it seems the girl is the wrong way round and it should ideally be flipped so that the gold part of her face is on the right A view of this girl in the big crowd attending that day is also available. This crowd view shows the girl the correct way round (Alamy ref: J3A1JA) - a vintage nineteen sixties photograph.
