Chromosome segregation protein, molecular model. This protein's function is to aid the process of chromosome segregation during cell division and replication. These proteins are incorporated into a chromosome's centromere and if it is absent or its function is disrupted, then an abnormal number of chromosomes and cancer can result. This example is the Spo0J protein from the Thermus thermophilus bacterium. It consists of eight chains and 230 amino acids.
