INTERNAL EAR, DRAWING

The ear is the organ enabling audition and balance. The inner ear analyses sounds and transmits the information to the brain by way of the auditory nerve. It comprises the vestibule, the semicircular canals and the cochlea. The outer ear is made up of the pinna (the visible part of the ear) and the external auditory canal. The outer ear and the middle ear enable sounds to be detected and sent to the brain. The middle ear includes the eardrum (tympanum), hammer (malleus), anvil (incus), stirrup (stapes) and the eustachian or auditory tube.
