On October 27, 1868, he married Miss Jennie A. Wash-burn, who still is living. His family now (1891) consistsof himself, wife, and two children. Personal.—John H, Prescott, brother of T. C. Prescott,was born in Strafibrd, N. H., November 4, 1840, and wasreared to farm work. He received the limited advantagesafforded by the common school, and later took an educationalcourse at New Hampton, N. H. He enlisted as a privatein Company G of the Eighth Regiment in November,1861, and shared in all the privations and successes of theregiment during more than three years of service. Hereceived promotions several times as a non-commissioned. LIEUT. JOHN H. PRESCOTT, CO. G. New Hampshire Volunteers. 495 officer, and on December 16, 1863, was commissionedsecond lieutenant of his company. Was promoted to firstlieutenant, April i, 1864, and on the 20th day of Septem-ber, 1864, was commissioned captain of Company G, inwhich capacity he served until the regiment was musteredout January 18, 1865. In April Ibllowing, he settled in Durant, Iowa, wherehe engaged in farming, and in 1867, married Miss RoxyO. Pingrey ; moving West two years later, he located inShelby count3% Iowa, where he resided until 1881, beingoccupied wdth farming and stock raising, and at that timemoved to the Red River valley, Minnesota, engaging ex-tensively with his brother in grain raising.
