In the early days of the county, attorneys were rarelyseen within its borders, but as the country became morethickly settled, the demand for the services of the exponentsof the law became more and more pressing. The attorneysof those days drove great distances to appear before thecourt, and it was no uncommon occurrence for one to drivefrom Springfield to plead a cause in Woodford county. Theattorneys present at the first session of court at Versaillesincluded a number who afterward gained wide reputationsas attorneys and politicians. Among these were AbrahamLincoln, John T. Staurt and Stephen T. Logan. The formerhad already given promise of future greatness, altho no oneforetold for him the great career that he later made.
