Specific Characters.—A large band of yellowish white or yellowover the eyes; on the head two large longitudinal black bands,separated by a reddish yellow band; the under tail coverts andthe rump marked with oblong blackish spots; tarsi of a male specimen sent me M. AQUATIC WARBLER. 81 The Aquatic Warbler has a somewhat limited is only known with certainty to breed in Germanyand Holland. According to Temminck it is only anaccidental visitor in the latter country, but Miihle givesthis as one of its breeding places. It is plentiful inItaly and the south of France during the passage. Itis found in Switzerland and Sardinia, on the banks ofthe Var and Rhone, and in the marshes surrounding-Aries. It is also found at Dieppe, and in the marshesabout Lille. It occurs in Algeria, as stated byCaptain Loche; and Mr. Salvin, in his Five MonthsBird-nesting in the Eastern Atlas, in the Ibis forJuly, 1859, says, At the head of the little marsh ofAiu Djendeli, I more than once observed a pair ofthis Warbler. We afterwards found it more abundantat Zana, where it was breeding. ^ In its habits it muchresembles the Common Reed Warbler, f C. arimdinacea ;Jthe eggs also
