Close-up of the V8 DFV Ford Cosworth Engine of a 1971, Brabham BT33 Historic Formula One Race Car.

For 1970, the Brabham BT33 was introduced and driven by Jack Brabham and Rolf Stommelen. Power was from Cosworth DFV power and the car rode on Goodyear tires. A total of 35 points were scored that season, earning the team a fourth place finish. The BT33 was used in 1971 and 1972, both years the team finished in 9th place. The BT33 was the team's first full monocoque. There were three examples of the BT33 built. The first example, BT33/1, was raced by Rolf Stommelen during the 1970 season. The car was crashed during practice for the British Grand Prix, so Mr. Stommelen piloted chassis number 3. The car was repaired for the start of the 1971 season and first driven by Graham Hill and later by Tim Schenken. Chassis number BT33/1 had its best finish in the hands of Stommelen at Spa in 1970 with a fifth place finish. After the car's World Championship career, it raced for several more seasons in South Africa where John Love achieved two victories. In recent years, the car has finished first at the 2006 and 2008 Monaco Grand Prix in the hands of historic racer Duncan Dayton. The DFV is an internal combustion engine that was originally produced by Cosworth for Formula One motor racing. Named Four Valve because of the four valves per cylinder, and Double as it was a V8 development of the earlier, four-cylinder FVA (four valve type A engine), making it a Double Four Valve engine. Its development in 1967 for Colin Chapman's Team Lotus was sponsored by Ford. For many years it was the dominant engine in Formula One, and it was also used in other categories, including CART, Formula 3000 and Sportscar racing. The engine was a 90°, 2,993 cc V8, with bore & stroke of 86 x 65 mm ( x in) producing over 400 bhp (408 bhp at 9,000 rpm, 270 ft·lbf (370 N·m) torque at 7,000 rpm was quoted) from the start, reaching over 500 bhp (510 bhp at 11,200 rpm was quoted) by the end of its Formula 1 career. The 1983 DFY variant had a revised bore and stroke of 90 x 59 mm
